JVC Company of America further illustrated its commitment to the high-definition (HD) market by announcing the ability to make an HD recording on a MiniDV tape. The announcement was made at the company's consumer products display in The Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada during the 2003 CES. ""JVC has always been an innovator in consumer electronics with many industry 'firsts' to our credit,"" said Jerry Barbera, Vice President, Consumer Video, JVC Company of America. ""Just as we were the first company to market the first HD solution for recording and playing HD signals and 1080i D-Theaterô Hollywood movies [HM-DH30000], we anticipate to be the first in the market with a consumer-level HD camcorder.""""One of the reasons we were able to get to this point is our development of progressive scan technology,"" added Rob Payesko, Merchandising Manager, Consumer Video JVC. ""We are able to record 480i (NTSC) in standard DV compression as well as 480p and 720p (ATSC) in MPEG-2 compression, all on a standard MiniDV cassette. As we examine the product possibilities as a result of this technology, we know we have to make this integrate into existing HD systems. To this point we would want to offer IEEE 1394 connectivity as well as component video output for connection to HD-ready monitors. This technology also allows for a variety of playback modes--480i for integration with existing 4:3 NTSC displays, and 480p, 720p, and 1080i to drive high-performance display devices."" ""Now the consumers that have invested in HD display devices can create their own HD content, worthy of the display it is being shown on,"" said Barbera., ""This is the beginning of a new generation of creating memories, brought on by JVC.""
