Telarc Signs U.S. Distribution Agreement With PentaTone Music

PentaTone catalogue features Philips multi-channel recordings from 1970s and new SACD recordings

23-Jan-03

Telarc International Corporation announces the signing of a distribution agreement with PentaTone Music, which was founded in 2001 by three former executives of Philips Classics (one of the classical music labels of Universal). The founders of PentaTone believe that 5-channel surround sound will gradually replace todayís stereo sound, because surround sound provides an extra dimension to the musical experience. Hearing is believing. The first set of eight RQRs (Remastered Quadro Recordings) will be released in March 2003. They are the quadraphonic recordings which were made in the 1970s by Philips Classics. Todayís SACD equipment is capable of reproducing these spectacular recordings the way they were originally intended to sound. All recordings have been remastered for release on SACD. PentaTone also plans to release new core classical recordings performed by top classical artists including Kent Nagano and the Berlin Deutsches Symphony Orchestra, Pepe Romero, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Yakov Kreizberg, The Russian National Orchestra and many others. These recordings will be released simultaneously with other Telarc SACDs throughout 2003. New releases from PentaTone - RQRs and new SACDs - will continue through 2003. All recordings will be released on hybrid SACD. This is a CD with two layers. The first layer contains the normal CD layer and the second layer contains the high definition two channel version, as well as a high definition surround sound version.
