29-Jan-03

Samsung, a global leader in flat-panel displays, introduced its new plasma TV lineup for 2003 at the Consumer Electronics Show. Representing the third generation of plasma TVs from Samsung's plasma plant in Chonan, South Korea, these widescreen, fan-less plasma displays have built-in NTSC TV tuners. The lineup includes the 42-inch SPN4235, the 42-inch HPN4239, the 50-inch HPN5039, and the world's largest plasma, the 63-inch HPN6339. ""Samsung has committed to be a dominant force in the plasma category,"" said Jonas Tanenbaum, Samsung's National Marketing Manager, Visual Display Group, for flat-panel displays. ""These third-generation plasmas advance our successful 2002 launch with major picture enhancements and innovative features embodied in a new cosmetic design. The confidence we have in our plasma display products is embodied in an exceptional two-year warranty that supports these units. We will continue to meet the needs and demands of this unique market as we quickly become a dominant player in the category."" With the new design, Samsung's latest plasmas are thinner than ever (just 3 inches deep) and promise even better performance then previous generations, with superior contrast ratio (1,200:1) and brightness (800 cd/m2). The inclusion of Samsung's first-ever proprietary digital processing algorithm, DNIeô (Digital Natural Image engine) ensures enhanced contrast, detail, white tone, and noise reduction. The full lineup will also employ DVI for a digital connection without the quality losses associated with an analog connection. Available for these models will be an optional pneumatic pedestal stand that can be adjusted low or high with one hand, and swiveled for optimum viewing from anywhere in the living room. The leader in Samsung's plasma lineup will be the SPN4235, a DTV monitor with 852 x 480 resolution that will be available in April (MSRP $4,999). Samsung will also offer HDTV models including the 42-inch HPN4239, available in May ($6,499), the 50-inch HPN5039, available in June ($8,999), and the 63-inch HPN6339, available in July ($19,999). All offer 1366 x 768 resolution. Each of Samsung's plasmas is Class B-certified for residential applications and uses Samsung's unique fan-less design for reduced background noise.
