Samsung Adds Progressive Scan DVD To VHS/DVD Combo Players

29-Jan-03

Samsung Electronics America, Inc., the first manufacturer to offer the DVD/VHS player as a single device, redefines the field with the introduction of two combination DVD/VHS models that support progressive scan DVD output. The new players are the DVD-V3500 and DVD-V3700. ""Progressive scan has become a must-have DVD format just like the DVD/VHS concept that Samsung helped popularize,"" said J.R. deSouza, Marketing Manager of Digital Video, Samsung Electronics America. ""In line with our DigitALL strategy, we're giving consumers the convenience and flexibility of having two of the most-used home entertainment products combined in a single unit that supports the highest-quality DVD digital video output."" Samsung's DVD-V3500 offers plenty of power in a single package. With two decks built into the chassis, the player supports nearly any digital disc and videotape media, including DVD, VCD, VHS, and S-VHS video formats. The DVD-V3500 packs everything to complete a home theatre in one player that can be operated by a single remote control. With its 480p progressive scan video output, Samsung has ensured that users with a compatible digital television monitor can view pristine, flicker-free images. The DVD-V3700 builds on the advances of the DVD-V3500 with an additional breakthrough: SDC or Single Digital Connection. The solution for users who don't want to bother figuring out which wire connects where, SDC uses a single set of cables to support both analog and digital media. It digitizes analog audio and video when used in conjunction with an HDTV set and offers a DolbyÆ Pro LogicÆ II audio processor. Consumers can also record shows to tape while watching simultaneously DVD movies and even take advantage of the products' PIP capabilities. With a metallic silver finish and gray acrylic faceplate, the player stands out among other components. The DVD-V3700 also includes a unique joystick remote control that allows users to glide through DVD menus with the tip of a single finger. Samsung's DVD-V3500 and DVD-V3700 support audio playback for an array of popular music formats, including CD, MP3, WMA, and CD-R/RW. The players also have the ability to play back JPEG CDs and Picture CDs for on-screen viewing of digital photos. Front-panel audio/video inputs on both devices offer easy access for connecting external devices. The DVD-V3500 (MSRP $229) will be available in April, while the DVD-V3700 ($299) arrives in June.
