Samsung Expands Its Widescreen Flat-Panel HDTV Line In 2003

New Widescreen LCD TVs Range From 17 To 46 Inches

29-Jan-03

Samsung, the global leader in LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel manufacturing, builds on the success of its award-winning LCD TV line with the introduction of six new widescreen models (17, 22, 26, 32, 40, and 46 inches) designed to meet every possible home entertainment application. Jonas Tanenbaum, National Marketing Manager, Visual Display Group, Samsung Electronics America, Inc., said, ""Samsung launched 15-, 17-, 22-, 29-, and 40-inch displays in 2002 to great acclaim. Our unique value proposition with HDTV and PC compatibility, supported with strong consumer promotions and advertising campaign, allowed us to build and capture a significant share of the market. We are building on that success with a wider variety of models in 2003."" In late 2002, Samsung introduced the ""World's Largest"" LCD TV currently available on the market with the 40-inch LTM405W. Now, Samsung introduces a step-up 40-inch model (LTN406W) that is integrated with a built-in digital tuner that makes watching HDTV as simple as plugging the unit in. An even larger integrated LCD TV will join the line as the 46-inch LTN465W becomes the world's largest in the fourth quarter of 2003. The LTN465W and LTN406W as well as the new 32-inch LTN325W and 26-inch LTN265W each include Samsung's first-ever proprietary digital processing algorithm, DNIeô (Digital Natural Image engine), which ensures enhanced contrast, detail, white tone, and noise reduction. All of the new models, including the 22-inch LTM225W, employ the industry standard DVI (Digital Visual Interface) providing an all digital connection without the quality losses associated with an analog connection. The LTM225W is the only one in the line to have a XGA screen resolution of 1280 x 720 (the rest are 1280 x 768). The 17-inch LTN1785W joins Samsung's line of multimedia flat-panel TVs that are four displays in one: a full-featured, 16:9 widescreen, high-resolution TV; an HDTV monitor (1080i, 720p, 480p); a PC-compatible display; and a video monitor that allows direct hookup of a DVD player, VCR, camcorder, or video gaming device. It does not include DVI or DNIeô, but does feature a PC/Picture-In-Picture (PC/PIP) function which lets users multitask by watching a video source while working on the PC. Each of these flat-panel units offers a wide viewing angle of 170 degrees, multiple inputs, and incorporates enhanced Samsung screens boasting the highest brightness in the category as well as an impressive contrast ratio (450 cd/m2 and 500:1 for 17-inch, 22-inch, 26-inch, and 32-inch models, and 500 cd/m2 and 600:1 for the 40-inch and 46-inch panels). The LTM225W (MSRP $2,999) is currently available, while the LTN1785W ($1,499) and LTN325W ($4,499) become available in June. The LTN406W ($8,999) joins the line in July, followed by the LTN265W ($3,499) in September and the LTN465W ($10,999) later in the fourth quarter of 2003.
