Samsung Introduces New Progressive Scan-Compatible DynaFlat DTV Line

29-Jan-03

Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a leading provider of digital television products and services, brings the promise of digital television to a new class of 27-inch and 32-inch progressive scan DynaFlat televisions. The new DynaFlat line delivers a high-quality digital viewing experience sure to impress sports fans and movie lovers, particularly owners of progressive scan DVD players. Samsung's new digital progressive scan DynaFlat sets, the 27-inch TXN2745FP and the 32-inch TXN3245FP always present a progressive scan picture regardless of the signal source. By accepting a 480p input, they ensure a noticeably better video from sources such as progressive scan DVD players or a Samsung set-top box (sold separately). Because the screens are totally flat, they present images without the distortion or glare associated with traditional TVs, further perfecting the viewing experience. John Lavoie, Marketing Manager, Visual Display Group, Samsung Electronics America, Inc., said, ""Samsung offers progressive scan TV for the same price as the competition's analog flat TVs, and the picture quality speaks for itself. A side-by-side comparison reveals that the flicker, buzzing reds, line edge crawl, and other distortions found on interlaced sets are not present on the Samsung progressive scan TVs. Samsung's progressive scan DynaFlats offer detail so fine you can read the credits as a movie ends, football yard lines are straight, the score on the big game doesn't flicker, and the edges where two colors meet are well-defined. These new progressive scan DynaFlat sets offer a noticeably better viewing experience than regular TVs by combining two of the hottest trends in TV today--digital viewing and a true flat-screen--at very affordable prices."" Most new DVD players are capable of outputting video at 480p progressive scan, but most TVs are not capable of displaying video in this high-quality digital format. Progressive scan eliminates the flicker found on standard analog sets, meaning score boxes on sports broadcasts remain anchored to the screen, and movie details jump out with a vibrancy never seen before. Samsung's 3:2 pull-down feature, included in these models, is indispensable for people who want to watch Hollywood films at home on video. The difference between film and video frame speeds causes blurring, stuttering, and other motion artifacts, especially during fast-action sequences. With Samsung's 3:2 pull-down process, these anomalies are corrected and the result is a smooth picture that is much closer to the original film. Both the 27-inch and 32-inch progressive scan models employ Samsung's state-of-the-art, proprietary DynaFlat technology, which presents a perfectly flat image without the curvature, image distortion, or glare associated with traditional TV screens. Offering comfortable viewing with brilliant, crisp pictures, these Samsung progressive scan DynaFlat TVs match the benefits of flat with the advantages of digital. The sets also accept a 480p input from a Samsung set-top box (sold separately), providing an affordable solution for viewing digital television broadcasts. The 27-inch DynaFlat TXN2745FP(MSRP $599.99) and the 32-inch DynaFlat TXN3245FP ($899.99) will be available in April.
