Classe Audio Introduces Omega Omicron Mono Power Amp

Canada's Classe Audio has long been known as one of the few manufacturers able to demonstrate just how superb state-of-the-art, cost-no-object sound reproduction can sound. Classe's Omega reference-grade, no-compromise audio components are justifiably accepted worldwide as definitive standards of performance. Among these is the Omega Mono power amplifier, a towering, single-channel, vertical design that delivers as much as 3 kilowatts to real-world loudspeaker loads, and is able to extract unequalled dynamics and detail from the most demanding recordings, even when driving the most difficult of loudspeaker loads.Now the Montreal-based company has unveiled the Omega Omicron Monoblock power amplifier. This smaller version of Classe's reference-amplifier concept nonetheless retains the Omega hallmark of producing prodigious power with pristine quality, dramatic detail, and phenomenal dynamic finesse. Like its predecessor, the Omega Omicron Mono is the result not only of sophisticated, computer-aided laboratory development, but of many hundreds of hours of critical listening tests performed to evaluate circuit components, layout topologies, and overall designs.Even the form and composition of the Classe's sophisticated, multi-layer circuit board resulted from extensive listening evaluations.Also like the original Omega amplifier, the Omega Omicron Mono design especially emphasizes one keystone of reference-quality amplifier performance: current delivery and stability, regardless of the low-impedance demands or reactive load presented by the loudspeaker. To this end, the Omega Omicron Mono employs a very large regulated DC power supply, utilizing a massive transformer and extended capacitance reservoirs, ensuring that the critical internal supply voltages will not ""sag"" under even the most extreme demands, and that sensitive low-level input and driver circuits will not be influenced by the necessarily ever-changing condition of power supply and output sections. Equally imposing output-stage current/voltage excursion potential ensures that this unexcelled dynamic potential will not be compromised in passage to the loudspeaker.In keeping with the Omega design concept, the Omega Omicron Mono amplifier capitalizes on balanced circuit topology from input to output, ensuring the widest possible dynamic range under any real-world conditions. (Both balanced and unbalanced inputs are provided.) The Omega Omicron Mono is rated to deliver 300 watts to 8-ohm loads, and 600 and 1200 watts to 4-ohm and 2-ohm loads. In the rare but by no means inconceivable instance requiring it, the Omega Omicron Mono will remain stable with loads well below 1 ohm and produce in excess of 1800 watts.
