Music Video Distributors and In-Akustik are pleased to announce the home viewing release of Asleep At The Wheel - In Concert for North American distribution on DVD. Asleep At The WheelÖWhenever fans of country music hear this name, they immediately become aroused. This is western swing at its best. Front man Ray Benson (vocals and guitar) has been at the forefront of AATW for over thirty years. More than eighty different guest musicians have gathered around him in the course of this time. They have constantly added fresh wind to keep the western swing fire burning. This circle includes such prolific artists as Chet Atkins, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton, Brooks and Dunn, Garth Brooks, Lyle Lovett, the Dixie Chicks, Tim McGraw, Lee Ann Womack, Shawn Colvin, the Squirrel Nut Zippers, Don Walser, Dwight Yoakam and many more.Ray Benson was the man of the first hour. He founded the band in 1970 in Paw Paw, West Virginia, together with the drummer Leroy Preston, the guitarist and singer Chris OíConnell and Reuben Gosfield, the boy on the Hawaii guitar. The Boys dreamed of a western swing revival á la Bob Wills at a time when hillbilly, boogie woogie and western swing itself had fallen into oblivion. Their first attempts of revival were performed with gigs in small clubs of backwater areas. But soon enough, AATW were taking on the stages of bigger cities. The musicians shifted their activities to San Francisco and signed a contract with United Artists. ìCominí Right at Ya,î their first album, was released in 1973.Together with his musicians, Ray Benson keeps the memory of this great pioneer alive. What was the name of Asleep At The Wheelís first album again? ìCominí Right At Ya.î And that is how it is supposed to be.This performance was filmed at Ohne Filter Studio in Germany on April 26, 2000.
