Music Video Distributors and In-Akustik are pleased to announce the home viewing release of Joe Louis Walker ñ In Concert: Ohne Filter for North American distribution on DVD.It started on the West coast ... One day the parents of Joe Louis Walker, who was born on Christmas Day in 1949, moved from Arkansas to San Francisco in their constant search for work. In the legendary 1967 Summer of Love, Joe Louis was a teenager: eighteen years old - and in the middle of things happening. He learned to play the guitar at the age of fourteen. At sixteen he left home, hung around in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco and shared a small flat with the influential white blues guitarist Mike Bloomfield in Mill Valley on the other side of the bay. Bloomfield was playing for Bob Dylan and for the Paul Butterfield Blues Band at the time. ìHe opened my eyes for a lot of things, a lot of new guitar stylesî, says Walker about his one-time roommate. Joe Louis Walker worked his way up in the blues scene of the Bay area by playing in clubs. One of the most prominent addresses was the ìMatrix Clubî. The young musician proved himself as support of Freddie King, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Lightniní Hopkins, and a number of other great musicians. He eventually founded the ìBosstalkersî with whom he produced a first album after a short time: ìCold Is The Nightî released on Hightone in 1986. Numerous live appearances and studio sessions followed this release. With his Bosstalkers, Joe Louis Walker received the ìW.C. Handy Award for Contemporary Artist of the Yearî three times in succession (1988, 1989 and 1990).Walkerës musical range had been clearly extended during this time: Chicago blues and Memphis soul, West coast feeling and Delta style had been combined to form an explosive mixture. Vocals and songwriting still have traces of Walkerës years in the gospel scene. He and his Bosstalkers play deep, melancholic blues. The appearance on Ohne Filter took place on 03.07.1991.
