Samsung Electronics Launches 100-Hour DirecTV DVR

Samsung Electronics America announced its entry into the digital video recorder (DVR; also known as personal video recorder or PVR) category with its first DirecTVÆ DVR with TiVoÆ recorder, the SIR-S4120R, capable of storing up to 100 hours of programming. The 120 GB hard drive in the Samsung SIR-S4120R DirecTV DVR boasts 50 percent more storage capacity than most DVRs currently available on the market. The hard drive is able to store up to 100 hours of DirecTV programming with TiVo Service at an affordable price. ""With the NFL and college football seasons about to kick off, Samsung's SIR-S4120R is the must-have product for the fall,"" offered Chris Cudina, Sales and Marketing Manager, Digital Set-Top Box Group, Samsung Electronics America, Inc. ""100 hours of storage time is enough to cover all of your favorite team's games while still allowing the rest of the household to TiVo their favorite programs as well."" Samsung's SIR-S4120R DirecTV DVR puts the viewer in command, simultaneously recording programming onto the hard drive while viewing. While recording is taking place, any show can be paused for an unexpected break for up to 30 minutes without missing any of the action. There are rewind, instant replay, and slow-motion playback features, and the dual TV tuners allow users to record two shows at the same time or watch one show while recording another. The SIR-S4120R features optical DolbyÆ Digital output and two USB expansion ports for future home entertainment services, and will be available at the beginning of September at an MSRP of $499. The DirecTV with TiVo service monthly subscription fee is $4.99 and will be free to customers subscribing to the TOTAL CHOICEÆ PREMIER package. Beginning September 14, consumers will be eligible for a $30 rebate when purchasing Samsung's SIR-S4120R. This promotion will be available through the holiday shopping period at participating retailers and will end December 28, 2003.
