Yamaha Introduces Second-Generation DVD+RW Recorder

23-Sep-03

Yamaha Electronics Corporation introduced its new DVD+RW recorder, the DRX-2. This second-generation unit has six recording modes, a two-hour linear PCM audio recording mode capable of recording to DVD+RW and DVD+R discs, and takes full advantage of the +RW format. The DRX-2 offers seamless two-way compatibility between DVD-Video discs and players with DVD+RW discs and recorders, including playback of the following formats: DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD, CD-R/RW, MP3, VCD, and SVCD discs (not compatible with DVD-RAM discs). The DRX-2 equipped with all the features of a progressive scan DVD player. Taking advantage of the DVD+RW (ReWritable) format, the DRX-2 makes it possible to re-record on a DVD+RW disc without the need to finalize or de-finalize that disc in advance. (DVD+R discs must be finalized to play on other DVD players.) Yamaha has outfitted the DRX-2 with a host of advanced editing and indexing functions. Six recording modes are provided for up to six hours of recording. Another feature is ""Fit To Space"" recording, which automatically selects the highest-quality recording mode which will fit the program to be recorded onto the remaining space on the disc. Additionally, an ""Index Picture"" screen display shows small pictures of the first scene of each recorded segment along with the source, length, date, time, and recording mode of each scene on a given disc. Any segment title can be selected for play or erasure, named, given a numerical (0-99) auto or manual chapter marker insertion, or divided into two segments at any point. These editing features can be accessed via the remote control. The DRX-2 includes VCR Plus+ compatibility. The DRX-2 is equipped with an i.LINK DV input (IEEE 1394). The DRX-2 (MSRP $699) will be available at the end of November. For more information about Yamaha Electronics Corporation, visit www.yamaha.com/yec.
