Yamaha Debuts The RX-Z9 9.1-Channel Home Theatre Receiver

25-Sep-03

Yamaha has introduced the flagship THXR Ultra2-certified RX-Z9 Digital Home Theater Receiver. The RX-Z9 features nine channels of amplification (170 watts x 7, 50 watts x 2) and Yamaha's Digital ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology). The high-current amplification system uses a symmetrical drive and full push-pull circuit configuration with a FET input stage. The power supply features a large toroidal transformer and large-capacity block chemical condenser (28,000 icrofarads). The RX-Z9 is compatible with DolbyR Digital EX, Dolby Pro LogicR II, DTS-ESR, DTS 96/24, and DTS Neo:6R, and features Yamaha's new digital soundfield processing, HD Cinema DSP, which uses four 32-bit proprietary LSIs which offer up to 51 surround programs, including Silent Cinema for listening to surround sound through headphones, and THX Ultra2 post-processing. The RX-Z9 offers component video upconversion from S-video and composite video, and also progressive scan video output, time-base corrector, motion-adaptive noise reduction, and Faroudja DCDiT and TrueLife Enhancer processing. Another remarkable feature is YPAO (Yamaha Automatic Parametric Room Acoustic Optimizer), which provides room audio optimization automatically at the touch of a button. With the YPAO, the RX-Z9 will automatically analyze and optimize room acoustics at the user's listening position using a parametric equalizer. Additional audio features include i.LINKR (IEEE 1394) digital audio interface for SACD/DVD-Audio, Pure Direct mode for two-channel sound reproduction, and a heavy-duty chassis construction with separate chambers. The RX-Z9 ($4,499) offers an RS-232C interface and extended IR codes for customized home theatre installations. It will be available late Fall.
