Samsung Unveils Three New VHS/DVD Combo Decks

26-Sep-03

Samsung Electronics America, Inc. has introduced three new combination DVD/VHS models, all capable of progressive scan, the DVD-V3500, DVD-V3650, and the DVD-V3800. ""Progressive scan has become a must-have DVD format just like the DVD/VHS concept that Samsung helped popularize,"" said Claude Frank, Samsung Electronics America's Director for Digital Audio/Video. ""In line with our DigitALL strategy, we're giving consumers the convenience and flexibility of having two of the most-used home entertainment products combined in a single unit that supports the highest-quality DVD digital video output."" The DVD-V3500 is Samsung's entry model for the category. The player supports DVD and audio CD, VHS, and plays S-VHS tapes with its QVHS capability. Samsung's DVD-V3650 is just 3.3 inches high. The DVD-V3800, in addition to progressive scan playback and a slim form factor, adds multi-flash playback, with Memory Stick, SmartMedia, and Multi Media format compatibility. ""With the easy availability of flash media and the affordability of the products that use them for storage, it was only natural that Samsung include inputs for them on the combo players we helped popularize,"" said Frank. All three units feature Samsung's EZ View letterbox eliminator to offer the choice of full-screen DVD viewing from the remote control. They also support audio playback from CD, MP3, WMA, and CD-R/RW. In addition, the players have the ability to play back JPEG CDs and Picture CDs, and offer front-panel audio/video inputs. The DVD-V3500 is currently available for an MSRP of $199.99. The DVD-V3650 is available for an MSRP of $199.99. The DVD-V3800 will be available in October for an MSRP of $249.99.
