Samsung Announces New Digital Satellite Receivers

Samsung Electronics America, Inc. has introduced two new DirecTVÆ set-top boxes, the SIR-S300W and SIR-S310W, which offer a multi-day Advanced Program Guideô as well as video games. Samsung has also extended the On-Call warranty program for these products. Utilizing Samsung's proprietary speed enhancement technology, both models feature the Advanced Program Guideô, which gives instant access to program listings up to 3-1/2 days ahead for the SIR-300W and 7 days ahead for the SIR-310W. They incorporate a new guide search function that lets users scan program listings via the names of actors, movies, and other one-step search fields. A picture-in-guide window allows viewers to continue watching a program while surfing through the listings, or they can choose Samsung's Quick Guide, which displays listings one 30-minute time slot at a time in an opaque overlay over the current program. The SIR-S300W boasts the industry's smallest footprint for a product of its class. It includes two audio/video outputs, built-in games, and on-screen caller ID.The SIR-S310W adds component video and DolbyÆ Digital outputs.
