Thomson (Euronext Paris: 18453, NYSE: TMS) introduced a new collection of RCA-brand audio and video connectivity solutions. The RCA Ultimate Performance Collection (UPC) collection includes audio, digital audio/video, S-video, component video, subwoofer, and combination cables.""Our goal is to deliver 'ultimate' performance from advanced audio and video products that consumers have come to expect,"" said David Geise, Vice President, Consumer Solutions. ""We have taken extraordinary measures to ensure that the RCA UPC line is of premium quality and delivers value and performance to the consumer.""An new connector design found on the cables is said to offer several performance benefits including: connector shielding (which protects low-level signals from interference), gold-plated split-centerpin conductor (for spring-type effect resulting in improved and maximum contact pressure), and a 12-segment spring radial cut (for making contact with the entire interior surface of the connector end to form a positive ground).""Shielding is an ingredient that delivers cleaner data transfer between the playback and display device, that helps ensure the performance quality of the Ultimate Performance Collection. Not only is the connector shielded within the cable jacketing, but so is the conductor within the connector,"" Geise explained. The connector is also hermetically sealed which will prevent exposure to moisture and provides a built-in strain relief to minimize signal interruption from normal use.The shielding process includes covering the dielectric with a Mylar foil wrap, which is then covered with a plated, pure copper braid. The UPC cables use the color coding system recently approved by the Consumer Electronics Association. For example, composite video connectors are yellow, digital audio coaxial is orange, and component video (Y) is green. To help create additional exposure on the retail floor, Thomson has a variety of collateral and display material to support the RCA UPC line. These include a free-standing display rack and an on-rack hookup guide and brochure. The 14 cables in the Ultimate Performance Collection are available at select retailers and include:PD6DVA, a six-foot digital audio or video cable.
