Digital Projection International (DPI), an Emmy Award-winning manufacturer of high-performance projection systems, announced the launch of the iS8-2K, the world's smallest fully-integrated, DC-2K based DLP Cinema projector. DPI's first formal demonstration of the Digital Projection Cinema-branded iS8-2K will be at ShoWest 2004 from March 22 to 25, 2004 in Las Vegas, NV. The new iS8-2K is designed specifically for smaller-sized cinema screens in auditoriums and for post-production. In fact, representatives of post-production companies who attended private screenings held by DPI in February have praised the new projector's size, weight and overall performance. The iS8-2K employs many of the same features available in the iS15-2K, which DPI launched in February. This includes a lamp house module that allows for a lamp to be safely replaced by a trained user, currently the status quo in 35-millimeter commercial cinema. ìAlong with the iS15-2K, the iS8-2K is a fully-integrated DC-2K DLP Cinema projector which features many advancements, such as a much smaller and lighter chassis that meets the challenging demand of limited space in projector booth,"" says Peter Nicholas, DPI's Director of Cinema Sales and Marketing for North and South America. ìThese innovative projectors confirm the commitment by both Digital Projection International and NEC Viewtechnology to the digital cinema initiative.îLike the iS15-2K, the iS8-2K also employs an adjustable lamp power supply, rendering the projector an ideal solution for matching projector brightness to exacting post-production, screening room and commercial cinema requirements. Also, the versatile Multi-Media Switcher 1000 (MMS 1000) enables the iS8-2K to display any content-from live concerts and sporting events to computer presentations and DVD-based material. In addition to exceeding Texas Instruments' DLP Cinema guidelines for contrast ratio, colorimetry and uniformity, DPI's new iS8-2K employs CineCanvas, CinePalette, and CineBlack for superior image, color, and grayscale resolution. CineLink is also employed for security management. Since first introducing 3-chip DLP to Hollywood in 1989, several production and post-production companies have relied upon DPI's projectors. According to Peter Nicholas, the number is growing. ìThe most progressive companies have already committed purchase orders for the iS8-2K and iS15-2K. Indeed, FotoKem Film and Video completed the install of the iS15-2K in February and are currently enjoying the benefits it's brought to their business.î For more information, please visit www.digitalprojection.com or www.digitalprojection.co.uk.
