B&W Loudspeakers has announced a new architectural model. The CCM 817 is engineered to provide a versatile solution for diverse custom-install challenges, while delivering the performance advantages and audiophile-grade sonics that experienced audio fans and custom-install experts expect from B&W. The two-way CCM 817 combines key elements of B&Wís acclaimed Nautilus range of free-standing speakers to achieve unprecedented quality from so compact and flexible an in-wall/ceiling design. These include its 7-inch woven-Kevlar Nautilus bass/midrange driver, unique for its strength-to-mass and freedom from internal reflections for a clear, highly transparent response combined with unexpectedly powerful and dynamic bass. The CCM 817ís a 1-inch, tube-loaded aluminum-dome tweeter is also Nautilus-derived, contributing extended, extremely accurate response and freedom from distortion for impressively defined transients and superb spatial response. Just as important, the CCM 817 positions these invaluable Nautilus elements in a unique, angled coaxial arrangement. A smoothly radiused tweeter ìpodî eliminates the detrimental diffraction common to most coax layouts, while permitting the installer to orient the speaker for optimum coverage and ideal performance. These factors make the new B&W remarkably versatile: as a musically adept main-channel speaker for stereo or multichannel custom-installed systems; as wall- or ceiling-mounted surround-channel speakers, or as high-performance distributed speakers for secondary spaces throughout a whole-house media system. The B&W CCM 817 presents an elegant, elliptical bezel of 10.7- x 9.5-inches, requiring a round cutout just 9.2 inches in diameter and a 4-inch installation depth. Its matte-white frame and grille are pleasingly usable as-is and are also suitable for pre-painting or custom finishing. A fast and accurate pre-mount installation kit is supplied. The CCM 817 will be available November 2004, at a manufacturerís suggested price of $700 each. For more information, please visit www.bwspeakers.com.
