At CEDIA EXPO 2004, connectivity solutions provider Gefen premiers its first-ever Wireless HDTV Extender. This ingenious new product uses laser beam tracking technology to extend high definition video up to 50 feet. Small metallic sender and receiver units are connected to the source locally and the HDTV display remotely-and they require no cable to connect them. High-definition digital video in multiple resolutions up to 1080p is sent from sender to the receiver, using point-to-point laser beam technology. This futuristic new product streamlines HDTV installations, improves aesthetics by removing bulky cables, and frees digital video displays for mounting and viewing in even the most hard-to-access locations. High-definition clarity and precision is supported up to 50 feet between source and display, providing ample room for home theater, studio and similar applications. The Wireless HDTV Extender is compatible with high definition and digital video sources equipped with DVI connectors. Sender and receiver both require an external power supply (included) on both ends to drive the unit. To install, the sender is connected to the DVI source, and the DVI-out receiver is connected to the display. Once the source, display, sender and receiver units are connected to power and turned on, video data is instantly sent from the source to the display. There is no delay, visual interference or degradation of video when using the Wireless HDTV Extender. For installations with greater distance requirements, Gefenís new HDTV Extender uses CAT-5 cable to extend high definition video up to 150 feet, while the DVI and HDMI-1000 HD Extenders send high definition video up to 1640 feet using fiber optics cables. The new Wireless HDTV Extender (MSRP $1299) is estimated to begin shipping in Q4 2004.Detailed information may be found at www.gefen.com.
