Marantz Chooses SRS Circle Surround II And TruSurround Headphone Technologies For Its New AV Home Theater Amplifiers

29-Sep-04

SRS Labs, Inc. announced that high-end consumer electronics manufacturer Marantz has expanded its licensing agreement with SRS Labs to feature Circle Surround II (CS II) 6.1-channel matrix decoding technology in its newest PS4500, SR4500, SR5500, SR7500, and SR8500 A/V amplifiers. The amplifiers, which have varying outputs from 80 watts per channel with seven channels in the PS4500, to 110 watts per channel also with seven channels in the SR8500, are also equipped with SRS TruSurround (TS) Headphone technology that accepts any multichannel source and delivers stunning virtual surround sound over headphones. The new SR4500 models are available now in the United States, the SR5500 are expected to be available in October and the SR7500 and SR8500 are expected to be available in November. The PS4500 is now available in Japan and all models are equipped with a programmable remote control. Circle Surround (CS) is a breakthrough, patented surround encode/decode format. The flagship decoder, Circle Surround II, delivers up to 6.1 channels of high quality audio from any mono, stereo, matrix-encoded, or Circle Surround-encoded material. CS II is the only surround decoder on the market today that features patented post-processing techniques to enhance the surround sound experience, including SRS Dialog Clarity, which improves the intelligibility and clarity of center channel information, and SRS TruBass, which uses patented psychoacoustic techniques to deliver deep, rich bass from any playback system, including those with or without a subwoofer. Marantz has included SRS Labs' technologies in their products since 1999. ""Our relationship of over five years with SRS Labs grows stronger with every product and we are thrilled to include the very latest SRS technologies in our new receivers and amplifiers,"" said Kevin Zarow, Director of Marketing and Product Development for Marantz. ""With more content being broadcast, produced and recorded in Circle Surround, consumers are demanding better performance and up to 6.1 channels of surround sound. Circle Surround not only delivers that, but it is the only surround format that includes patented post processing enhancement techniques."" Marantz is a leading worldwide provider of premium brand home entertainment, professional and business electronics products including state-of-the-art home theater receivers, professional recording and playback products and video technologies. SRS TruSurround Headphone technology is a patented virtual surround sound process that accepts any multichannel source, such as 6.1 surround sound, and uses the incoming multichannel information to create incredibly realistic virtual surround sound over headphones. Since the headphone listening experience is fundamentally different than the home theater setup, separate parameters must be used to ensure the most realistic and non-fatiguing recreation of virtual surround sound. SRS TruSurround does this through the use of patented headphone perspective curves and provides a dynamic home theater listening experience. ""This latest expansion agreement with Marantz is another example of how home theater manufacturers are adopting Circle Surround II and TruSurround technologies to deliver the best available multichannel experience to their customers,"" said Hank Kato, Sales Manager for SRS Labs Japan. ""Our strategy is to penetrate more and more home theater markets throughout the world and this expansion agreement with Marantz Japan proves that we are on our way to achieving the goal of becoming a 'must-have' technology feature for the home theater.""
