NHT To Unveil New Super Audio Lineup At Consumer Electronics Show

Super Audio Models Feature New Cabinet Geometry, Driver Designs

15-Nov-04

NHT announced today it will introduce a new selection of Super Audio models at the upcoming International Consumer Electronics Show, January 6 - 9 in Las Vegas, NV. Similar to the previous Super Audio line, the new selection exemplifies NHTís commitment to designing speakers, with natural, transparent sonic reproduction that is the hallmark of the brand. Upgraded models are based on the companyís most revered models, but with considerably higher output and improved dispersion that is especially critical in multichannel audio applications. ìSuper Audio has been the backbone of the NHT line since the beginning,î said Chris Byrne, Managing Director of Rockford Home Group, parent company of NHT. ìIn the time that has elapsed since we last upgraded the line, there have been important advances in technology as well as the continuing evolution of our design capabilities, allowing us to completely revamp the selection without abandoning our ëhigh end without the high priceí philosophy.î The new Super Audio selection, scheduled to ship in Q1 í05, represents a nod to NHTís roots while embracing new developments such as cabinet geometry that greatly reduces diffraction effects. Though final specifications and suggested retail prices will be announced at the show, Byrne disclosed the line will include the following models. - SZT and 2T two-way bookshelf speakers - 3T three-way bookshelf speaker - 2C two-way center channel speaker - 3C three-way center channel speaker - T three-way tower speaker According to Byrne, the SZT and 2T are based on two of NHTís most popular speakers, the SuperZero and SuperOne, respectively. These new versions feature similar sonic characteristics, but with greatly improved high frequency dispersion. The SZT specifically is nearly 15% smaller than its predecessor. Similarly, the 3T is a replacement for the SB3 monitor, but it represents a completely new development effort, moving from a 2-way to a 3-way design. Employing a new iî metal dome tweeter and 2î aluminum dome midrange plus 6.5î woofer, the 3T offers similar response to the SB3 but with significantly improved dispersion. The 4T tower is loosely based on the 2.9 tower, though it employs the same driver compliment as the 3T, in addition to a 10î, side loaded aluminum cone subwoofer. The 4T is roughly 25% smaller than the original 2.9. ìConsumers can use our new Super Audio two-way models to create a high performance 5.1 surround system for under $2,000,î added Byrne. ìMore powerful systems can be created using our three-way models for as little as $2,700, including a subwoofer.î ìNew cabinet geometry that grew out of designs for the NHT Xd monitors significantly broadens the listening area, which is absolutely critical for multichannel audio, whether itís music or a DVD soundtrack,î said Jack Hidley, NHTís Director of Engineering. ìThe addition of new driver and cabinet designs make it possible to offer smoother on and off axis response that was not possible just a few short years ago.î For more information, visit http://www.nhthifi.com
