Digital Projection International (DPI) announced that the Tribeca Film Festival will utilize 19 of its large venue displays to present 100% of the digital screenings during the New York-based event, from April 19 th through May 1st, 2005.This year, digital screenings account for 50% of all Tribeca Film Festival entries, marking the role DPIís projectors will serve at the event. The fleet of projectors will include DPIís native 2K resolution LIGHTNING 35HD, the liquid cooled and high-contrast HIGHlite 12000Dsx+, and the companyís newest and most compact 3-chip DLP projector - the Mercury 5000HD. This array of displays will present a total of 286 digital entries, including shorts, at over 1000 individual screenings. In total, 16 Tribeca Film Festival theaters will be digitally equipped with DPIís projectors.ìTribeca Film Festival demands the very best film and digital projection. 2004 was our first year with only DPI projection and it was by far the best quality and performance of any yearî, reported Mark Steele, Technical Director of the Tribeca Film Festival. ìFor the past several years, Boston Light and Sound has provided these projectors to the Festival, in addition to 35mm projectors for premier red carpet venues. We are humbled to be trusted with that roleî.Notable films being screened digitally at the 2005 Tribeca Film Festival include; ìGreat New Wonderful,î ìI Am a Sex Addict,î ìIowa,î ìLA Riot Spectacular,î ìThrough the Fire,î ìShow Businessî and ìRize.î The DPI projectors will be employed on a variety of screens, the largest two being 43.5í wide, which are in twin 420-seat auditoriums in the Regal Battery Park.
