Terra To Deliver Sonically Enhanced AC Series All-weather Loudspeakers

New models deliver smoother response, enhanced bass quality and quantity

By Gary Reber

Terra Loudspeakers has updated and re-named its highly regarded AC Series all-climate loudspeaker line. The new AC.16e (“e” for enhanced), shipping 9/09, and AC.15e systems, shipping 08/09, feature highly revised 6.5-inch ACAD™ Anodized Ceramic Aluminum Diaphragm cast frame woofers combined with Terra’s weather-proof metal alloy dome tweeters in a dense, rotationally molded UniCavity™ polypropylene sealed enclosure. Like all Terra speakers, AC systems are capable of withstanding direct exposure to the elements and may even be installed without concern on sea-going vessels. Every component part has been designed to remain rust and corrosion free as evidenced by the company’s Limited Lifetime Warranty policy. And perhaps most unusual in this day and age, Terra manufactures its products in their Maine factory, even going so far as to hand assemble their woofers in-house to ensure optimum performance and sample to sample consistency.

AC.15e models use a 6.5-inch ACAD woofer in a compact enclosure with a .75-inch Aluminum co-axially mounted tweeter. The AC.16e models feature larger enclosures and a non-coaxially mounted 1.1-inch Titanium inverted dome tweeter.
These redesigned speakers offer more powerful bass response, ideal for music and residential outdoor theaters. Since the woofer’s bass output has been increased, crossovers have been modified to ensure continued delivery of Terra’s highly regarded smooth, high fidelity reproduction. For those technically inclined the following explains the modifications made:

    New proprietary (built in Maine) 6.5-inch woofers with more powerful magnet assemblies and higher power voice coils result in increased bass output and enhanced power handling
    Re-designed woofer surrounds provide extended diaphragm travel (cone “throw”) to further supplement bass output
    Revised magnetic fluid formulation used in the MFCS™ (Magnetic Fluid Centering System) that replaces the typical woofer “spider”. The MFCS system damps driver resonances and helps control cone motion (which lowers distortion). Additionally, the fluid helps to cool the drivers’ voice coil thus enhancing its power handling and dramatically reducing thermal compression.*
    New computer optimized crossovers balance frequency response while fine tuning the overall sound
    All Terra speakers feature Location Balanced Sound™ as they are sonically balanced for their most commonly used locations, incorporating mid-bass boundary compensation, because they are generally placed in or up against a wall. And since outdoor speakers are primarily listened to off-axis and at lower volume levels, particular attention is paid to providing smooth, detailed and extended HF response with excellent off-axis coverage

The AC.16e and AC.15e models will consistently deliver exceptional fidelity when used alone. And when combined with Terra’s dynamic AC.SUB outdoor subwoofer, they create an impressive full-range outdoor hi-fi or the basis for a dramatic all-weather home theater.
All models are available with gold flashed 5-way binding posts (standard), an optional water-tight “pigtail” lead or a marine grade, water-proof Conxall™ connector. Additionally, they may be ordered with a built-in 70V transformer and power selector switch for large scale or commercial installations, while remaining all-climate capable.

Terra manufactures exceptionally high-quality enclosure type and flush mount weather-proof loudspeakers. Terra has been providing these excellent products into the residential custom installation and light commercial markets since 1999.
