TENSOR SERIES SETS NEW STANDARD FOR ACCURACY

By Gary Reber

ADAM Audio USA is introducing its high-end TENSOR Series loudspeakers at the CEDIA Expo 2009.

The TENSOR Series is based on the extensive experience and technical breakthroughs that ADAM Audio has achieved with its professional studio monitors, used by leading recording facilities around the world.

TENSOR Alpha, Beta and Gamma floor-standing loudspeakers are now joined by the smaller Delta and Epsilon models, along with the Center and the SW393 subwoofer which allow TENSOR to be used in any high-end stereo or multi-channel system.

Alpha features two 13” HexaCone™ woofers, each driven by a 500W amplifier and electronically equalized for exceptional bass reproduction down to 20Hz.The upper cabinet’s two 9” HexaCone lower midrange drivers, two X-ART midrange units and X-ART tweeter reproduce all of the frequencies above 85Hz with absolute accuracy.

The critically acclaimed mid-sized Beta has a lower cabinet with two electronically equalized 11” HexaCone front and rear mounted woofers, each driven by a 200W amplifier with individually tuned frequency responses for each. The upper cabinet combines a 7” HexaCone midrange driver with an X-ART midrange and X-ART tweeter for detailed and natural-sound reproduction of the crucial middle and high frequencies. Beta’s sandwich-designed enclosures have a layer of sand to reduce unwanted cabinet vibrations.

Other TENSOR Series models include the 4-way active Gamma with two front and rear mounted 8” Hexacone woofers, and X-ART midrange driver and tweeter; the 3-way Delta with X-ART midrange and tweeter transducers, and the compact 2-way Epsilon speaker with an X-ART tweeter.

The TENSOR Center components are matched to the Alpha, Beta and Gamma speakers for consistent sound reproduction throughout the frequency range.

The TENSOR SW393 subwoofer is designed to provide significant depth and power to a multi-channel system without sacrificing precision and detail. A 1000W Pulse Width Modulation amplifier drives the 15” diaphragm driver and functions with a powerful neodymium magnet and a long throw voice coil that allows linear excursions of up to ±2 cm.

The SW393 features a wide range of useful and highly sophisticated controls, including a phase switch, level control, high pass filter for satellite output and a variable upper barrier frequency adjustment of 50-150 Hz.

Pricing for this series ranges from $6700 a pair for TENSOR Epsilon semi-active speakers to $50,000 a pair for the fully active TENSOR Alpha speakers.
