Dear Gary:I have a question with regards to the setup of the BP2000TL. Shane Buettner wrote that he used the MC1 LFE low level signal crossed over @ 40Hz to drive the subs in the BP2000TLs thru their LFE input. The BP2000TL’s have an internal crossover @ 80 Hz. My question is what happens to the info between 80Hz and 40Hz?

Thanks for writing. Looking back on my BP2000TL article I did not clearly delineate that the crossover I mentioned setting is on the Lexicon MC-1, not the speakers themselves which have no adjustable crossover setting. The configuration I preferred in my room was setting the speakers to “Large” with a subwoofer. I then fed the line level LFE inputs on the BP200TLs from the Lexicon’s subwoofer output using a Y connector to run the signal to both speakers. I liked this configuration best with a 40Hz crossover set on the MC-1. Many receivers, however, do not allow adjusting of the subwoofer crossover and will allow only one crossover point which is set by selecting “Large” or “Small” speakers. Now, don’t forget either that what we’re talking about here is the low pass signal fed into the line level LFE input of the BP200TLs. A full range speaker level signal is still input to the BP2000TL when “Large” speakers are selected at the processor. At no point would the mids and tweeters reproduce down to 40Hz as the BP2000TLs internal crossover for the woofer is tuned to around 100Hz.PS. According to Definitive the crossover to the sub is a bit higher than that around 100Hz or so. The sub output crossover from the Lexicon MC-1 was set to 40hz, meaning that the line level signal being input to the BP2000TL is 40Hz and below. But don't forget that a full range speaker level signal is still being fed to the BP200TL as well. The only potential frequency response attenuation in this scenario would be of LFE signals above 40Hz. I found this setting to produce the deepest tightest bass, which was more satisfying to me. Others may prefer a different configuration and I would encourage experimentation.
