Increase Quantity Without Losing The Quality
Dear Gary: I have been a reader of Widescreen Review since it's beginning. I have enjoyed and benefited from your technical articles which raise our understanding of the technical aspects of the cinema experience that we prize. I have most definitely enjoyed the equipment reviews by Mr. Hardesty. However, your move to 10 issues has definitely lowered the quality of your magazine!! The magazine has lost seemingly half of its bulk. It has most certainly lost more than half its editorial comment. Most of the news is just that, press releases from different companies as opposed to the announcement coming as part of an article explaining the meaning or lack thereof of the press release. Please increase the editorial content of the magazine and double the pages. You will then have increased by quantity without losing the quality.

Thank you for your concern. Actually our editorial and reviews are increasing, both hardware and software, as a result of expanding to four more issues a year. We have cut size in favor of more frequency and more timeliness. In our Editor’s Chair section, I try to provide information on important industry news and current issues, not always only analyzes. We just don’t have the space to do that in every issue. There are operational economics to every publication. Compared to all other home theatre magazines, we still provide more content, especially at our 8pt Helvetica Light type face. We have in production a 400-500 page Ultimate Widescreen DVD Movie Guide™ and we have just published a 178-page Special Edition: The Essential Subwoofer Buyer’s Guide™. The issue you’re reading is 164 pages. Future issues will be in the 132-172-page volume. Such density far out weighs other home theatre publications. Another reason for the increase in content is that previously our bi-monthly editions contained upwards of 100 plus DVD reviews. At the monthly pace, we are featuring upwards of 70 DVD reviews.
