Sony DRC vs Progressive Scan DVD

Dear Gary: This is perhaps the most basic of questions, but one that has even the Sony customer service department stumped. I have a Toshiba 5109 Progressive DVD player which I received as a housewarming gift two weeks ago. I have ordered a Sony WEGA KV36XBR400 as a present to myself. Is there any benefit to me having a progressive output DVD player in this setup? Or is it better to input via the interlaced component outs of a less expensive DVD player and let the DRC of the Sony work its magic? After all, I could use the extra money towards...

Video Technical Editor Greg Rogers Comments:

Sony’s DRC technology is considerably different than that used in progressive-scan DVD players. I believe you will be able to see the difference between the Toshiba 5109 and the built-in DRC while watching movies. But you will have to be the judge of which you prefer, and if the additional cost of a more expensive DVD player is worth any difference.
