Re-EQ’ed?

Dear Gary: Just received my copy of Issue 35 and I have a few questions I would like to ask. Lately, I’ve been reading a lot about titles that are Re-Equalized for home theatre playback (Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, The Corruptor, Out Of Towners, etc.) Now my question is, how can I distinguish a DVD which is Re-EQ’ed for home theatre playback to the ones which are not?

Movie Sound Editor Perry Sun Comments:

We have been able to distinguish soundtracks that have been processed through Re-EQ, either from our contacts at the studios, or the fact that they simply sound dulled when Re-EQ processing is engaged with our equipment. It would be great to have a symbol on the DVD packaging designating the soundtrack as Re-EQ’ed, but there seems to be resistance to this, for fear of confusing the consumers with too many sound logos.
