Dear Gary:Having just gotten what most would consider a “low end” home theatre, I started buying your fine publication, and now I subscribe to it. However, has anyone ever considered a special edition, or better yet, a series of articles for us “lower end, Best Buy” types who really just can’t afford a Classé Controller and amp? Many of us scrape up just enough for a Mitsubishi 16:9, and maybe a Pioneer VSX D608, but just can’t go the price of MOST of the things you review.Common, guys, how about the rest of us? We would love to see a review of some of the under $300 DVD decks, amps, and the other stuff.I bet you could double your circulation if more “low end” reviews were included!

Movie Sound Editor Perry Sun Comments:
As a magazine, we seek to consider reviews of products that we believe are of significant performance, and also value, to our readers. Historically, we have been selecting components for review that potentially offer the best performance, because we are always eager to identify products that can make home theatre “the best that it can be™,” in accordance with our editorial mission. However, we also recognize that many who read Widescreen Review have limited, often tight budgets for their home theatre systems. We also are keenly aware of the fact that there are products available at reasonable prices that offer high value for the level of performance that they achieve. (An example is the $1,199 Denon AVR-3801 A/V receiver, reviewed in Issue 47, April 2001.) We endeavor to continue to identify and review such components as our small product review staff and time will allow.
