“Downrezed” D-Theater Movies?

Dear Gary: I just read your artice in Issue 59, April, regarding D-Theater and the JVC HM-DH30000U. It was great. I am very interested in this product but I have one question. In your article you state, “What is known for a fact is that D-Theater movies will continue to output HD images all the way into the future with the HM-DH30000U.” (Page 44) My interpretation of this is that if I buy the current JVC model, future movies released on D-Theater will NOT have the ability to tell my player to “downrez” the video on the analog outputs. Is this correct? I would be willing to risk the chance that the studios might stop releasing movies on D-Theater, but it would be a total bummer to have them release great movies only to have them (at some point in the future) downrezed. Thanks again for the great article; it was very informative. P.S. Maybe Fox can talk ol’ George into releasing the Star Wars movies on the format.

Editor-In-Chief Gary Reber Comments:

There has been no statement to the contrary that the resolution at the analog outputs will be reduced or “downrezed” in future D-VHS D-Theater VCRs. WSR’s position is that full 1080 resolution should be supported on all analog outputs and NEVER by downrezed.
