Dear Gary:I find that WSR provides content that most mainstream DVD reviews simply neglect. After working so hard on the hardware of my theatre, I like to know what software is really worth taking the time to view. That said, please take my comments for improvement as just that. The following are some of the functional and editorial problems I found in my first two months of membership.1. I wish that it were possible to have some additional links to the critics’ evaluation of movies. A movie with a good picture and great sound that is simply horrible, only makes its mediocrity that much more apparent. Please give us links to evaluate if the CONTENT of the movie is what we are looking for.2. Your daily news links often go to sites that do not allow access to the articles. What is the point of providing links if they don’t connect to the article in question? Isn’t there a better way to retrieve such news?

Thank you for subscribing to Widescreen Review. We hope you find your subscription worthwhile. With regard to links for content information, we do provide such information whenever possible. (1) We provide links to the company releasing the DVD and, in some cases, the movie’s original Web site created for theatrical release. (2) We include in our reviews information that we call a Critics’ Composite Score, which is a one-through-five score averaged from up to ten publications. I’m providing below for your use Web site addresses to those publications. We will consider adding these to the site (though their addresses are fairly obvious). Note that some of the newspapers are subscription-based sites.Variety: www.variety.comHollywood Reporter: www.hollywood reporter.comBoxoffice: www.boxoffice.comEntertainment Weekly: www.ew.comUSA Today: www.usatoday.comNew York Times: www.nytimes.comSan Francisco Chronicle: www.sfgate.com/eguide/movies/reviews/Los Angeles Times: www.calendarlive.com and www.latimes.com Cinemascore: www.cinemascore.comManaging Editor and Sound Review Editor Perry Sun Comments:Some of the external links to news sources that we provide on our Web site, such as The Hollywood Reporter, are valid only for a limited period of time, usually one day. Other sites, such as the Los Angeles Times and The New York Times require a user registration that is free. We usually do not provide links to paid subscriber-based sites, namely Variety.com, except in circumstances when the story is unique, and its relevance absolutely warrants mention on our site.
