WSR Fan Missed

Dear Gary:

I am writing to you with an unusual topic. Usually your letters are about DVDs, aspect ratios, equipment, which high-definition DVD format will prevail, and so on.

Recently, my brother-in-law passed away quite suddenly from a brain aneurism at the age of 32. He will be sorely missed.

What does this have to do with Widescreen Review? My brother-in-law was a subscriber. Ken “Kenny” Cahoon sure loved to read your magazine. We used to speak about the reviews, equipment, etc. It was a topic we both enjoyed. Kenny wanted what we all want from movies and music...good sound, good picture, and to see them in the aspect ratio that the director intended. But mostly, he just wanted to enjoy the experience.

That, my friends, is what it’s all about. Whether or not you have a 13-inch cheapie television, or a Hi-Def Monster...normal RCA cables or gold-plated oxygen-free jobbies...just enjoy it! Life is too short and precious. I inherited Kenny’s back issues, and when I read them, I think of the good times we had together. Thank you for the pleasure that your magazine gave to my brother-in-law...my friend Kenny.

Director of Marketing and Operations Maryellen Oswald Comments:

Thank you for sharing this letter with us. First off, Widescreen Review would like to extend our condolences to you and your family. As we publish our 100th issue, it gives us the opportunity to reflect on why we do our jobs. Like Kenny, our audience shares a passion for a true home theatre experience. We have heard comments from some people over the years that say that WSR’s focus is too serious or technical for the average consumer to digest. It is at this special time, with this special edition, dedicated to readers like Kenny, that we begin to celebrate our 100th Issue. We will continue to educate in the same manner as we have done, to ensure that everyone can achieve the optimum performance out of their home theatre systems. We thank Kenny and our readers for allowing us to do what we do.
