Dear Gary:
I will tell you that your early issues are wonderful. The detailed information provided by your staff writers and guests is beyond what any audio or video publication today—yes, even Widescreen Review—publishes. I read each issue with a highlighter in my hand, underlining as I read. These early issues are textbook in their educational and instructive value.
Have you ever considered re-publishing any of these articles, say, as an early archive column, in current editions of WSR? For instance, Home Theater Surround Sound..Doing It Right by Peter Moncrieff and the addendum thereto by Gary Reber, in Volume 4, Number 4, Issue 15 is really good stuff and still current by today’s standards. Also, articles by Joe Kane and others make for very good reading. There are many, many more examples of articles that I am sure your present subscribers would love to read.
I wish to order more back issues and was wondering if you can tell me if the Pioneer Elite CLD 99 LaserDisc player was ever reviewed? WSR went from using the CLD 97 as a reference player to the CLD 99, and I was wondering what research was involved. I have two CLD 99s and still watch more LaserDiscs than Blu-ray Discs, and I would like to read a review article, if available.
Also, can you tell me if RF demodulators (for AC-3 Dolby® surround sound) were ever reviewed and, if yes, in which issue?
