Yamaha’s RX-V1 Back Surround “6.1” Receiver

I just subscribed to your magazine based on the Web site and some emails I have received for some questions I asked you. I received good information and clear explanations on DTS questions and now I have another question. I am getting close to upgrading to Dolby Digital Surround EX/DTS ES with the new Yamaha RX-V1 Receiver. What do you know about this receiver? What’s the word on this receiver? It seems pretty amazing. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Movie Sound Editor Perry Sun Comments:

The RX-V1 is Yamaha’s powerful new flagship receiver, with six channels of 110-watt amplification and two channels with 35 watts for Yamaha’s “front-effects” processing. Back surround capability is provided via “Matrix 6.1” decoding, and DTS® ES when in DTS Digital Surround™ mode. We plan to provide a full evaluation of this unit, as well as other Dolby® Digital Surround EX™-compatible receivers in future issues.
