Dolby® Digital And DTS® Video Comparison

Dear Gary: After reading the forum thread on DTS vs Dolby Digital, I thought I’d try some listening tests. On the Saving Private Ryan DVD, there are a number of good listening comparison areas, from boom, kaboom, to open fields, and close-in buildings etc. Anyway, I was surprised by the amount of difference between the two, but that is not what this is about, I thought I saw some difference in the picture quality, so I did some investigation (see the attachment for results). The Bitmap, is actually two separate BMP files each 360 x 479 pixels, with the DVD they came from marked in the upper corners. The pic is from the very start of chapter 7 45 minutes and 45 seconds into the film. As you can see, there really is a difference! DTS may sound better, but Dolby Digital seems to look better

I find your results to be very intriguing and interesting. Did you measure the video rates between both versions? Does the Dolby Digital DVD use less video compression? Have you been able to support your findings with other titles?
