Story Synopsis:
"Alive" is the true story of intense human endurance and survival. Based on the real life experience of sixteen Uruguayan rugby players who survived a plane crash and the 72 treacherous days thereafter stranded high up in the wintry desolation of the Andes mountains. The film depicts the graphically explicit and shocking break-up of the plane crashing into the mountain, and the horrors of survival as ordinary young men and women find the courage to endure, meeting each day

DVD Picture:
Though not credited on the jacket, the 1.85:1 DVD is anamorphically enhanced and exhibits a picture that is quite satisfying. Colors are nicely balanced, with natural fleshtones, but slightly weak blacks. Contrast and shadow delineation are generally satisfying. One would expect that, with all of the snow, there is the typical high-contrast opportunity for edge enhancement to be very bothersome. Yet, the appearance of the annoying white halos is impressively infrequent. There is some minor pixelization, however. The source element is revealing of occasional artifacts and minimal film grain.
