  WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Never has an onomatopoeia evoked so many children

DVD Picture:
Wow! Who would have thought "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" could look like this (especially after the previous pan-and-scan atrocity...MGM, what were you thinking?). The anamorphically enhanced 2.20:1 DVD picture -- sourced from a 65mm transfer -- is very clean with an incredibly remastered color scheme that is naturally balanced with accurate fleshtones, rich hues, and deep blacks. With the exception of some scenes that appear slightly soft and the expectedly dated effects shots, the picture is incredibly sharp and detailed with excellent contrast and shadow detail. Edge enhancement is all but absent, with only occasional thin lines of halos surrounding objects. Finer details, like those on the windmill or Chitty, are occasionally noticed shimmering, but nothing to complain much about. This movie is too much fun, and the picture looks great! (Suzanne Hodges) The flip side of Disc One includes a modified 1.33:1 (4:3) version of the film (not reviewed).
