Story Synopsis:
The events of what happened on August 18, 1973 led to one of the most bizarre crimes in the annals of American history, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. In this remake of the 1970s classic horror film, five friends happen upon a bloody and disheveled young girl wandering down the street, and their worst fears are realized when the girl sticks a gun in her mouth and kills herself. But things only go from bad to worse when the teens run into the strange residents in that Texas town; especially the maniac with the chainsaw -- the one they call Leatherface. Based on a screenplay by Kim Henkel and Tobe Hooper. (Tricia Littrell)

DVD Picture:
The anamorphic widescreen 1.85:1 DVD picture is perfectly suited for the creepy storytelling, with a color palette that supports the sweltering Texas atmosphere. Images are sharp, and details and textures are nicely rendered. Shadow delineation allows for just enough visual information in the eerie darker scenes. Colors are desaturated and often have brownish overtones, and many scenes have a monochromatic appearance. The picture is harshly contrasted and hard-edged, but halos noticed around objects are pretty minor overall, though obtrusive in a few scenes. There is also some pixel breakup detected.
