Subscribe FreeIn 1912 Philadelphia, women didn't have the right to do much of anything. Activist Alice Paul (Swank) was determined to do something about that, so she and her good friend Lucy Burns (O'Connor) set out to make a change to the American constitution. While on a hunger strike, the girls won the title of Iron Jawed Angels and with their refusal to give in to opposition, finally on August 26, 1920, the 19th amendment giving women the right to vote became constitutional law. Alice continued to fight for women's rights throughout her entire life up until she died in 1977. (Tricia Littrell)
