After a Duke (O'Toole) purchases the faithful collie for his young granddaughter Cilla (Odgers), the dog misses her master Joe (Mason) as much as the boy misses the dog. After Lassie escapes time and time again, the Duke moves her from England to Scotland, but Joe knows that nothing will keep Lassie from the family she loves and that Lassie will always come home.
