The anamorphically enhanced DVD opens with a dramatic windowbox, but after the opening titles, the picture switches to its 1.78:1 aspect ratio. This is a nice improvement over the LaserDisc reviewed in Issue 22 in terms of clarity and definition. The DVD exhibits a sharp and detailed picture with improved contrast. Colors are rich and often vibrant with nicely balanced hues and deep blacks. The dated picture is quite solid, though fine film grain is sometimes revealed. Overall, this is a nicely rendered picture with occasional edge enhancement, but nothing too distracting.
