The 1.85:1 DVD is not anamorphically enhanced, but compared to the LaserDisc reviewed in Issue 22, the picture is much more detailed. However, the DVD picture is not as smooth, with some scenes appearing down right grimey with excessively perceivable film grain. Images are occasionally sharp, while others are soft and wanting in definition. Minor edge enhancement and pixelization are evident, as well as occasional aliasing problems. Overall, a mediocre DVD picture. (Suzanne Hodges)
I like the movie reviews, and I like the equipment tests. I enjoy the interviews with manufacturers. I also feel that you are a good source for what is coming out next, trends etc. I think you dig a little deeper in your tests of equipment. Sometimes I have to read between the lines, and I know why you don't slam some company's gear. You have more interesting reading.
