  WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea is the classic, but clunky tale of a renegade commander and his crew aboard an atom-powered submarine that journeys to the ocean floor in an attempt to stop the destruction of the earth. A radiation belt has exploded and threatens to cook everyone on earth, or drown them as the polar icecaps melt. The movie inspired a popular television show, but it

DVD Picture:
The anamorphically enhanced 2.35:1 DVD picture is impressive for its age. Images are solid, with colors that are nicely balanced and quite vibrant. Images are sharp, though some scenes exhibit a soft focus. There are few distractions in the way of artifacts or pixelization for a picture that will surely please throughout. Its solid appearance is outstanding for a forty year old movie.

Soundtrack:
The Dolby(r) Digital 4.0 soundtrack is dated in fidelity, but is adequately restored with minor background noise. The original stereophonic audio is predominantly confined to the screen channels, with some subtle surround envelopment. Some distortion can be noticed, and the sonic character overall is somewhat muted and occasionally harsh. Dialogue is reasonably clear and characteristically directionalized. This re-purposed soundtrack seems to be a direct transfer from the original CinemaScope(r) audio, so the limited low frequency output is expected. Nonetheless, this film's new audio is an opportunity to experience the vintage multichannel audio, albeit flawed.
