In City Slickers, Billy Crystal leads a great cast with his role as an urbanized executive who is worried and struggling to find the meaning of his life. When he and two buddies (Stern and Kirby) hit the west to play cowboys on a real-life cattle drive, the trio embark on some comical situations which ultimately end up leading to a better understanding of themselves and each other. Jack Palance won a Supporting Actor Oscar
The anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 DVD exhibits pleasing image quality throughout, The picture is sharp and detailed, with nicely rendered contrast and shadow delineation. Colors border on oversaturation at times, with slightly orange fleshtones. Otherwise, hues are rich and well balanced, with deep blacks. Edge enhancement can be obtrusive, and there is occasional pixelization. The picture is smoother and more refined when compared to the LaserDisc reviewed in Issue 10. (Suzanne Hodges)
Reason #73 Why Readers Love Widescreen Review:
I like the movie reviews, and I like the equipment tests. I enjoy the interviews with manufacturers. I also feel that you are a good source for what is coming out next, trends etc. I think you dig a little deeper in your tests of equipment. Sometimes I have to read between the lines, and I know why you don't slam some company's gear. You have more interesting reading.
