In "Insidious: The Last Key," parapsychologist Dr. Elise Rainier, (Shaye) returns to her family home to face the unrelenting demons that have plagued her since childhood. Accompanied by her two investigative partners, Specs and Tucker (Whannell and Sampson), Elise must delve deeper into the Further to unlock the mystery and destroy her greatest fear. (Gary Reber)

Special features include the alternate ending "Further Prison" (HD 03:02); eight deleted scenes (HD 18:52); the franchise recap "Dive Into The Insidious Universe" (HD 04:38); the featurettes "Becoming Elise" (HD 05:29), "Going Into The Further" (HD 03:30), and "Unlocking Keys" (HD 02:35); upfront previews; and a Movies Anywhere digital copy.

The 2.39:1 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a Sony Bravia Z9D 4K Ultra HD HDR display, upconverted to 2160p with greater resolution and luminance, was photographed digitally using the Arri Alexa Miini camera system and sourced from a 2K master Digital Intermediate format. As with the original "Insidious" Blu-ray reviewed in Issue 159 (September 2011), picture quality is superb, with incredible resolution that reveals remarkably fine detail in every frame. Facial features, hair, clothing, and object textures are wonderfully resolved. The color palette is mostly perfectly natural, with nicely saturated hues that are never exaggerated, though, in some segments the color is muted to essentially black and white, or a greenish quality is injected for an eerie effect. Contrast is perfectly balanced with deep blacks and revealing shadow detail. There are numerous dark scenes that are effectively descriptive of nuances. Dimensionality also is impressive, as is the pristine quality of imagery. This is a sharp, detailed picture that is impressive throughout. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is like that of the original Blu-ray soundtrack. It is dynamic, with moments of intensity that are jolting. Fidelity is excellent. The orchestral music score delivers an emotional punch throughout, combined with incredible Foley and sound effects that enhance the terrifying buildup of the demon's haunting. Atmospherics and sound effects are often panned effectively across the soundstage. Effects often burst out at loud levels, for impressive impact. Bass is deep and solid with punctuated .1 LFE energy bursts that ignite the soundfield. Surround envelopment is often intense, directionalized, and aggressive. Dialogue is impressively integrated spatially. Fidelity throughout is impressive, even at low levels. To significantly up the experience, play the soundtrack through the Auro-3D Auro-Matic upmixer. Spherical surround dimensionality is impressive, outperforming most Immersive Sound native soundracks. This is a wonderfully holosonic® soundtrack that really delivers the thrills and chills.
