Armed with only one word "Tenet"—and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist (Washington) journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time. Not time travel. Inversion. "Don't try to understand it, feel it," a character tells the hero near the beginning. Nolan has given the characters the ability to stroll backwards through time, interacting with the characters who are advancing through time the normal way. As such, the proceeding can be quite confusing. (Gary Reber)

Special features include the featurette "Looking At The World In A New Way: The Making Of Tenet" (HD 60:00) and a Movies Anywhere digital code.

The 2.20:1/1.78:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD HDR10 picture, reviewed on a Sony Bravia Z9D 4K Ultra HD HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Arriflex 765, IMAX MKIII, IMAX MKIV, IMAX MSM 9802 and Panavision Panaflex System 65 Studio camera systems in Panavision Super 70 and IMAX and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. Nolan attempts to re-create the IMAX theatrical experience with another mixed aspect ratio presentation that frequently opens up to 1.78:1. Resolution is excellent from the opera house opening onward, as shot after shot delivers incredible depth and fine detail. Color fidelity is comprised of "orange and teal" hues for a compelling stylized presentation. Colors pop nicely from vivid blues to sunlit hues. Fleshtones are naturally hued. HDR contrast is excellent—deep blacks, detailed shadows, and brilliant highlights. Depth is excellent in expansive city scapes and exteriors. This is a visually stunning presentation that will thrill Nolan fans. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is quite dynamic sounding with powerfully loud segments. Surround directionallity and aggressiveness is evident throughout, as well as panning effects. Ludwig Göransson's percussive electronic score occupies a wide and deep soundstage that extends to the surrounds. Deep bass is extended in the .1 LFE channel to sub-25 Hz and is often powerful. While Nolan prefers a 5.1 mix, the soundtrack could have benefited from an Immersive Sound mix, which would have added a welcome sense of height layer dimension. Still, sound quality is reference quality. (Gary Reber)
