In "The War With Grandpa," sixth-grader Peter (Fegley) is pretty much your average kid—he likes gaming, hanging with his friends and his beloved pair of Air Jordans. But when his recently widowed grandfather Ed (De Niro) moves in with Peter's family, the boy is forced to give up his most prized possession of all, his bedroom. Unwilling to let such an injustice stand, Peter devises a series of increasingly elaborate pranks to drive out the interloper, but Grandpa Ed won't go without a fight. Soon, the friendly combatants are engaged in an all-out war with fun consequences. (Gary Reber)

The 1.85:1 1080p AVC picture, reviewed on a Sony Bravia Z9D 4K Ultra HD HDR display, upconverted to 2160p with greater resolution and luminance, was photographed digitally using the Sony F55 camera system and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. The picture is bright, even in the interiors of the family home, and, of course, the school settings. The color palette is vivid with rich and warm natural hues. Resolution is revealing of fine details in clothing, object textures and facial features. Lighting highlights are effective and intensify the already bright effects. This is a picture without much contrast, though, the picture provides a vivid color experience that stimulates the eyes. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is very dialogue focused with intelligibility, though, at times forward ADR sounding, The music element is quite prevalent with a wide soundstage presence that extends to the surrounds. Atmospherics and sound effects complement the proceedings. During a video game brief deep bass is heard. Otherwise, frequency response is rather narrow in the middle range. Overall, the soundtrack matches the story with moments of effective dynamics. (Gary Reber)
