The 2.39:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed on Kodak 35 mm film in anamorphic Panavision® using the Arriflex 435, Panavision Panaflex Lightweight, Panavision Panaflex Millennium XL and Panavision Panaflex Platinum camera systems and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. Film grain has been removed using digital noise reduction. Picture quality is superb, The settings are urban city and both outdoor and interior environments are realistic, Color fidelity throughout is perfectly saturated with strong primaries and depth. Colors appear to pop, whether clothing, objects or computer screens. Flesh tones are accurately hued. HDR contrast is excellent. Black levels are deep. Shadows are perfectly revealng. White levels appear well illuminated and realistic. Resolution is revealing of fine detail with sharp and clear imagery throughout, no matter the lighting scheme. Facial features exhibit fine detail, especially in closeup of skin textures, beard stubble, and hair. Clothing stitchings and fabric texture are realistic. This is a visually dynamic picture with a terrific color palette and realistic settings. Yet another classic restored by Arrow Video. (Gary Reber)
The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel soundtrack is often exciting and dynamic sounding with realistic urban atmospherics and intense sound effects during wild and powerful shootouts, vehicle chase mayhem and explosions. Deep bass excites the action with at times sub-25 Hz extension. Foley sound effects are in perfect sync with picture. Christopher Young's and Paul Oakenfold's orchestral score is powerful and a significant sound element with a near constant presence. The music is enveloping with a wide and deep soundstage and aggressive surround field. Surround energy is at times intense with excellent directional sound effects. Dialogue is both on set and ADR produced, both of which sounds spatially integrated.This is an intense dynamic sounding holosonic® soundtrack that builds with excitement. (Gary Reber)
