In "A Working Man," Levon Cade (Jason Statham) left behind a decorated military career in the black ops and counter-terrorism to live a simple life working construction and be a good dad to his daughter. But when his boss’s daughter, who is like family to him, is taken by human traffickers, his search to bring her home uncovers a world of corruption far greater than he ever could have imagined. The 2.39:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally in anamorphic Panavision® using the Arri Alexa 35 camera system and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. The setting is Chicago. Picture quality is excellent. The color palette exhibits natural hues for a very realistic look The hues are reflective of urban environments. Flesh tones are perfectly natural. HDR contrast is excellent. Blacks are solid. Shadows are well defined. White levels are strongly illuminated for dramatic effects. Resolution is superb with imagery that is sharp and clear. Facial features are finely detailed such as skin pores, lines, beard stubble and beards. Sets, structural features of buildings, interiors and objects within and out are nicely detailed. Clothing reveals fabric textures. This is a visually exciting picture that exhibits excellent picture quality. (Gary Reber)

The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic sounding with a range of nuanced and intense atmospherics and sound effects. Atmospherics sound realistic. Sound effects are often intense with enhancements supported with sharp transient deep bass that extends often to sub-25 Hz levels for excitement. Gunfire and explosions are powerful. The orchestral score is intense, bass accentuated and dynamic with a wide and deep soundstage that aggressive extends to the surrounds. The soundtrack builds with excitement and intensity as Levon confronts the Mafia. Dialogue is the week sound element. It is mostly ADR produced, often with a slight muffled sound that requires focus.

The Immersive Sound element is comprised of a strong extension of the orchestral score to the height layer and a few seconds each of some sound effects such as wind, scuffle sounds, breaking glass, explosions and gunfire ricochet, as well as one scene with nighttime atmospherics. Far, far more could have been accomplished in the sound design of the height layer, but the music extension does effectively enhance the spherical sound field.

This is an exciting holosnic® spherical surround soundtrack that sounds dynamic with strong transients and powerful bass extension. (Gary Reber)
