While passengers onboard the "Poseidon" were busy toasting in the New Year, a humongous rogue wave was on its way to join in on the festivities. After the giant swell crashed its way into the ship, as in 1972's The Poseidon Adventure (both of which are based on the novel by Paul Gallico), death and destruction was everywhere, as the victims scrambled to find their way to safety through the inverted ship. The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic and robust sounding. Atmospherics sound impressively realistic with all manner of creeping sonics. Fidelity is exemplary as is dimensionality. Sound effects are prominent and during the disaster sequences and increasing death occurrences the sonics are supported with deep bass. There are numerous wonderfully immersive watery sounds. Bass energy is carried in all channels including the .1 LFE channel, which often spikes full throttle during eruptions of water and explosions inside the ship.. Foley sound effects are in perfect sync with picture. The orchestral score is seemingly constant and occupies a wide and deep soundstage with aggressive extension through the surrounds. Surround envelopment is impressively immersive. Dialogue is intelligible throughout, even during intense sound effects, with excellent spatial integration.
