In "The Accountant 2," Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) has a talent for solving complex problems. When an old acquaintance is murdered, leaving behind a cryptic message to “find the accountant,” Wolff is compelled to solve the case. Realizing more extreme measures are necessary, Wolff recruits his estranged and highly lethal brother, Brax (Jon Bernthal), to help. In partnership with U.S. Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), they uncover a deadly conspiracy, becoming targets of a ruthless network of killers who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried. The 2.39:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Ari Alexa 35 camera system and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. The setting is Los Angeles with urban backdrops in which the storyline is a puzzle. The picture exhibits realism throughout. The color palette is naturally hued. Hues are warm and rich and well balanced. Flesh tones appear accurate. HDR contrast is well balanced with dark shadowy images, revealing deep blacks and realistic white levels with effective spot lighting during the numerous darker scenes. Resolution exhibits fine detail in facial features, such as skin pores, lines, beards and hair. Interiors and exteriors appear realistic. Object textures are nicely resolved. Thjs os a good looking picture that delivers compelling imagery. (Gary Reber)

The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is effectively dimensional and supported with a haunting bass-centric foundation and aggressive surround presence. The sound is dynamic. Atmospherics are realistic with excellent dimension. Sound effects are often intense with strong transient responses and deep bass support, such as powerful gunfire, explosions and vehicle movement. Deep bass is complementary to the sound effects and at times extends to sub-25 Hz in the .1 LFE channel. Foley sound effects are precise. Surround energy is aggressive enveloping. The orchestral score is quite active. The music is aggressively enveloping with a wide and deep soundstage and strong surround presence. Dialogue is mostly intelligible though at times a bit challenging to decipher.

The Immersive Sound element is wonderfully directional with an aggressive extension of the music. Subtle dialogue is also extended, but strangely often isolated in the right rear height channel. Atmospherics also are present as well as generally muted sound effects, such as gunfire, Strangely the sonics often favor the right back height layer, but nevertheless there is always treatment of the height layer, which makes for enhanced spatial dimensionality.

This is a well-crafted suspenseful holosonic® spherical surround soundtrack that delivers suspenseful excitement and intensity. (Gary Reber)
